JIS Marine Angle Valve

JIS Marine Angle Valve

A JIS Marine Angle Valve is a globe-type stop valve with inlet and outlet ports arranged at 90 degrees, manufactured to Japanese Industrial Standards. It combines reliable shutoff and flow regulation with a built-in change of direction, eliminating the need for a separate pipe elbow. This space-saving design is widely installed on vessels built in Japan, Korea, and across Asia for seawater, ballast, bilge, steam, fuel oil, lubricating oil, freshwater, and compressed air service.

Overview

1. Applicable Standards and Design Basis
Our JIS Marine Angle Valves are designed, manufactured, and tested in accordance with the following core standards:

  • JIS F7301 / F7302 / F7303: Marine bronze 5K, 10K, 16K globe valves (angle pattern covered).

  • JIS F7305 / F7306: Marine cast iron 5K and 10K globe valves (angle pattern covered).

  • JIS F7311 / F7312 / F7313: Marine cast steel 5K, 10K, 16K globe valves (angle pattern covered).

  • JIS B2220 / B2239: Steel pipe flanges and marine pipe flanges, defining flange dimensions and facings for 5K, 10K, 16K classes.

  • JIS F7400: General inspection and testing requirements for marine valves, governing shell strength and seat tightness acceptance.

2. Material Selection for Severe Marine Service

  • Body & Bonnet: Available in marine bronze (JIS BC6 or equivalent), cast iron (FC200), ductile iron (FCD400), cast steel (SCPH2), or stainless steel (SCS13/SCS14). Ferrous bodies receive a high-build, two-component epoxy coating for long-term corrosion protection. The bolted bonnet design allows easy access for inspection and maintenance.

  • Trim (Seat & Disc): Renewable seating surfaces in stainless steel (SUS304/SUS316), bronze, or Monel, precision-lapped for positive metal-to-metal shutoff. Soft-seat options (PTFE or reinforced EPDM) are available for bubble-tight closure on clean fluids.

  • Stem: Stainless steel (SUS304 or SUS316) with external acme threads and an integral back-seat shoulder, polished to a fine finish for smooth operation and extended packing life.

  • Packing & Gasket: Graphite or PTFE-impregnated packing rings, compressed by an adjustable gland. Bonnet gaskets are reinforced graphite, PTFE, or spiral-wound stainless steel/graphite to suit the service temperature.

3. Key Technical Features

  • Angle Pattern Design: The 90-degree body layout serves as both a stop valve and a flow elbow, reducing pipe joints, potential leak paths, and installation space in crowded engine rooms and pump rooms.

  • Positive Back-Seating: When fully open, the stem shoulder seals firmly against a back-seat bushing in the bonnet, allowing the packing to be retightened or replaced while the valve is under pressure and providing a secondary stem seal.

  • Full-Guided Disc: The disc is independently guided within the body or by the stem, ensuring chatter-free, smooth performance even during throttling service and minimizing seat wear.

  • Renewable Seating Surfaces: Seat rings and discs are designed to be replaceable, significantly extending the valve’s service life without requiring complete valve replacement.

  • Manual and Actuator-Ready: Standard configuration includes a robust handwheel with a rising stem and clear position indication. Gear operators are fitted for larger sizes and higher pressures. An ISO 5211 mounting pad or adaptable top flange permits direct mounting of electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuators.

4. Typical Marine Applications

  • Seawater cooling overboard discharge and suction lines

  • Fire main and foam system isolation

  • Fuel oil and lubricating oil transfer, heater inlet/outlet isolation

  • Steam and condensate line drains, vents, and isolation

  • Compressed air and control air distribution

  • Bilge, ballast, and stripping pump suction and discharge

  • Tank suction and cross-connection valves

5. Quality Assurance, Testing, and Certification

  • Testing: Every valve is subjected to a hydraulic shell test at 1.5 times the rated pressure and a seat leakage test at 1.1 times the rated pressure, strictly in accordance with JIS F7400. Back-seat tests are performed where applicable. Test certificates accompany each shipment.

  • Material Traceability: Full EN 10204 Type 3.1 equivalent material certificates are provided for the body, bonnet, stem, and trim components. Each valve body is permanently marked with the manufacturer’s stamp, nominal size, pressure rating, material code, heat number, and applicable JIS standard.
