JIS F 7234-1995 5K flat sight glasses are used in ship engine room systems to visually monitor the flow and condition of water, lubricating oil and fuel oil. They are designed for 5K flanged piping systems conforming to JIS B 2210.

Glass material should be selected according to the fluid temperature and thermal shock requirements. For fuel oil above 60°C, soda-lime glass, 96% silica glass or quartz glass is recommended. For fluid temperatures above 75°C, tempered glass must be used. Polycarbonate glass is suitable for water up to 75°C.

The sight glass body is flanged type and conforms to JIS B 2210 5K flange dimensions. The structure consists of two glass plates installed perpendicular to the flow direction. Sight glasses can be supplied with or without nozzle, and with or without flapper. Each unit is inspected according to JIS F 7400 and hydrostatically tested at 1.5 times the maximum operating pressure. The maximum operating pressure for 5K type is 0.49 MPa {5 kgf/cm²}.

Face-to-face dimensions and sight dimensions for DN15-DN100 5K marine sight glasses are available in A, B and C series. The following dimension table shows standard cast product dimensions. Steel plate fabricated types and welded types can be produced according to customer requirements.
