Materials and Applications

Main Material: The most common material is cast iron, which is relatively inexpensive and meets the requirements of general marine environments. Ductile iron is also used in some applications due to its better strength and toughness.

Filter Screen Material: Usually stainless steel to prevent corrosion.

Applicable Media: Seawater, fresh water, bilge water, etc. It should be noted that mud boxes primarily target the physical interception of solid particles and are not fine filters.

Pressure and Temperature: The operating pressure is typically atmospheric or low pressure (e.g., PN4, PN10, 5K, 10K), and the medium temperature is generally room temperature.

Maintenance and Care

Regular Cleaning: Depending on the cleanliness of the medium, periodically open the mud box cover to clean internal sediment and impurities from the filter screen.

Seal Check: Check the sealing gasket (liner) between the mud box cover and the mud box body to ensure there are no leaks.

Filter Replacement: Replace the filter screen immediately if it is found to be damaged or severely corroded.

Corrosion Prevention Inspection: Inspect the mud box surface for rust, especially areas treated with hot-dip galvanizing or plastic coating.
